She Doesn’t Notice
She doesn’t care that we are wearing yesterday’s bathing suits again. She doesn’t mind missing church just this once or that the cats are home and probably a little hungry. She doesn’t care that it’s windy and we’re all a bit grumpy and there’s sand on everything. Okay, maybe she does care about the sand part.
She doesn’t notice that her lips are blue from swimming so long and she can’t quite stop shivering. She doesn’t mind that we stayed at the beach an extra day instead of grocery shopping or doing laundry and she won’t have the good snacks for camp tomorrow.
When you’re five, every day at the beach is the best day. That’s all she notices. And swimming and digging and snacks. That too.
