I Love The Internet

This week, loving the internet wasn’t too hard. BlogHer sent the Voices of the Year videos to YouTube yesterday, everyone stopped being tired from BlogHer and started writing again, I have a post on Huffington Post, and I watched as the internet wrapped our dear, sweet friend Alexandra in all the love after she lost her mom. I love the internet.

Last week, as our friend Alexandra’s mom started failing, the tweets started. Then the pictures. All the love. Dana Talusani and Erin Margolin started the idea: Alexandra’s mom loved going out for ice cream. In this hard time, go out for ice cream with your families, savor the moment, and hold their family in your heart, then let Alexandra know you’re thinking of her with the hashtag #icecreamforalexandra. So perfect.

“Once it occurred to me that screaming back at her just made things worse, I started to reply to her “I can’t” with one simple word — YET.

Alexis would say, “I can’t.

I would calmly say, “Yet. Repeat it. You can’t YET.”

“I’ve never fully explained to you the depths my insanity can reach while traveling with children. You see, I get….well, I get worked up. (Understatement.) It’s not that I freak out on my kids or even (that much) on my husband. It’s more like I’m boiling some sort of anxiety soup within my very soul and therefore I grasp the door handle or OH SH*T handle and turn my knuckles white and hardly breathe.”
