Finding The Right Time
There are two times in Roozle’s day in which she is more likely to try something new and eat something a little different. Neither of these times are during dinner. Once I realized that these times exist, I’ve been trying to get away from the standards a bit to work some new foods into rotation at the right time.
It turns out that lunch and after school before dinner are the perfect times. Both times have one thing in common: she’s hungry.
This week I downsized her sandwich to direct the hunger a little to the right. To the raw spinach. It’s working. This morning, after three days of eating all the spinach, I asked her if she wanted a little spinach today too. She replied, “No, Mommy. I do not want a little spinach today…. I want A LOT!” So awesome. Before this week, she has refused spinach and all leafy greens, including green smoothies. Before this week, I was offering greens at breakfast and dinner.
The other Right Time is the snack after school. This one is a little tricky because it needs to travel well. I may end up packing something I store at work during the day.
Do your kids have certain less picky eating times of the day? Are you taking advantage of it? How?
